Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian captain spoke to NDTVSports in an exclusive chat during the Champions Trophy semifinal between India and Sri Lanka in Cardiff on June 20 where he revealed he hates being compared with Dhoni and as he feels players of different era played under different situations and conditions hence cannot be compared. He also said Dhoni is a Terrific Captain and has lot of cricket in him even now ! 🙂
No matter , how much we argue and claim Dhoni is better captain than dada aka Sourav Ganguly, one thing is undeniable, there is one thing which only dada could do and no one else –During the final match of the 2002 NatWest Trophy held in Lords,England after a stunning performance by team mates Yuvraj Singh and Md Kaif , Ganguly took off his shirt in public and waved it in the air to celebrate India’s win( It was a statement to the world of cricket) and was later condemned for jeopardizing Lords protocol and cricket. No matter what, Sourav Ganguly taught Team India to stare into the eyes of the opponent and do not go by names of the opponent or the place they were playing in. Today the confidence which we see in Team India’s each and every player is a gift of Sourav Ganguly to Indian Cricket,I firmly believe.
Difference between Dhoni and Ganguly,as per me- Dhoni has attitude and Dada had attitude problem and both rock 😀
It is good news for Indian cricket fans(like myself) to see promising youngsters like Pujara and Shikhar , takeover responsibility of seniors like Yuvraj and Dhoni and super-seniors like legendary Tendulkar and Sehwag ! 😀
Well, is it just an excuse to divert criticisms against himself or a genuine feedback about Gambhir, only Dhoni knows but this clearly shows that the continued criticism of ‘Captain Cool’ and his captaincy has snatched away the peace of his mind and now he is in a defensive mood.Anyways,no one in Team India is Sachin Tendulkar that his position in Team India would be guaranteed for lifetime. 🙂
After a disastrous loss of Team India in the second test against England,Master-Blaster,Sachin Tendulkar, is under severe pressure. His performance with the bat has turned real bad and its been 6 innings since consecutively, where he could not perform at all! Speculations are being made that the BCCI selectors had a word with Sachin on his performance and while Sachin Tendulkar has left the decision on the selectors, they,on the other hand, showed confidence in him !
A decade back, the same name-Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar was termed ‘One Man Army’ of Team India, who helped Team India win many matches,single-handedly. It is the same legendary cricketer whose presence in the team makes almost no difference.
Is it just a ‘long bad patch’ of Sachin,as explained by Sunil Gavaskar or is it all over for the 39 year old legend of legends ? 🙁
BCCI has invited Pakistan Cricket Team for 3 one-day and 2 twenty20 matches coming December – January. This is the first series since the 26/11 terror attack for which India pointed out Pakistan’s involvement. Pakistani President has welcomed the offer and has written to Indian Prime Minister on the matter!
With many others, now stands Kapil Dev,the former Indian captain and the first to make India proud of winning the World Cup of 1983. He wants Sachin to retire at the earliest now. Of the view that he should have rather retired before the 2011 world-cup and at least after that, he feels age factor is taking a toll on the Master Blaster!
Why should not Sachin retire without making 100th century?
While there are continued criticisms faced by Sachin still not retiring and most believe it is his 100th century what he is playing for, one should not forget at the end records do matter. Among many other records which the great batsman has earned the awaited century would surely be the biggest, if at all the critics allow him to continue. Sachin Tendulkar when compared to the young Indian cricketers is not playing that bad. Who in the team is playing great ? Is it Suresh Raina , Jadeja , Rohit Sharma , who ? Sachin is playing lot better than one would have expected out of a man of his age. Critics wanted him to retire 5 years back but he came back and showed his worth. And why should he not think of records ? Although he has been ‘One Man Army’ many a times in the past , winning matches for India, single-handedly , he has never been a reason of India losing. With due respect to the great player Kapil Dev, it should also be noticed that during the ending phase of his career, none of the opponent batsmen ever hesitated scoring boundaries of Kapil’s bowl. In fact he would stand very expensive many a times and yet he did not quit till he broke the record of Richard Hadlee of 433 wickets!
