Bihar Mid-Day Meal Tragedy

23 children, between the ages of 5 and 12, were poisoned to death by the free lunch served at their school in the village of Masrakh in Bihar. Post-Mortem reports indicate insecticides in food consumed by the kids while the State Govt smells some conspiracy. Meanwhile,The Ministry of HRD declared that they had warned the Bihar govt in April over problems faced by the mid day meal scheme in the state. India’s midday meal scheme is one of the world’s biggest school nutrition programs, providing food as an incentive for poor parents to send their children to school and this is not for the first time the quality of  Mid-Day Meal has created problems.

Long Hair-My Guru!

Why I grew them?
well it was my childhood fantasy to look like Arjun Rampal 🙂 So what if I did not look that handsome.I could grow hair as long as his. Then came Rockstar ( the movie ) and this time I wanted my hair that long. 🙂
Why not ever before?
Parents, siblings, beloved, friends, the society as a whole.. Someone always had something to say when they would see my hair a little longer than usual and instigate me to change my mind.
How long will I keep them?
Till my learning is over.till I am sure, I will follow religiously what i have learnt from my guru.
Learn?? !! You kidding me??You got a guru who asked you to grow hair?
No.I ain’t! 🙂
You learnt??What did you learn growing your hair this long?
I learnt :

Patience-it takes a lot of it while drying them rubbing with the towel everyday after taking a bath and then untangling them with comb. And I find,I am being more patient toward everyone and everything, rather than reacting in anger or frustration.Helps developing relationship.
Control on Anger- trust me!anger exploded initially, after I would come out from bath.5 mins and above rubbing the towel on my head and then combing the hair for good 10 mins to untangle.Choice was simple- either I quit or do this everyday.I chose the second and once I stopped being frustrated and angry,I started taking lesser time drying my hair and then untangling and combing them.Slowly,I applied controlling anger with people around and rather apply brains and get things done faster. It works miracles.

Concentration– that’s something I learnt only recently.Taming your wet hair everyday from drying them to slowly untangling and then back-brushing takes 100 percent concentration. You just cannot do without it if you really want to save time and peace of mind and bit of knotted-hair which you would ideally intend plucking off, every time you comb.I somehow, noticed I have developed the ability to concentrate at whatever I am doing any given moment. This is giving  me better output everywhere.

Discipline-I am lot more disciplined now.No more getting ready in haste.I know my hair would take time hence I pre-schedule my bathing time and accordingly everything else.Slowly, I have realized I love being disciplined , on time, and proper. With long hair, you just cannot take things casual. No more, just a boy who can put a pair of jeans and t-shirt on and spray the deodorant around put the shoes on and leave, anytime!

Sense of Achievement-Some compliment, some call me a rockstar, some also stare and many have an issue(as i mentioned in my previous post) but I feel I have achieved what I wanted to since childhood. How many times,I had to give up on my wish because of social norms which is inspired by the Brits. Two years of not getting a hair cut done simply means” when you gotta go… you gotta go !! ”  🙂

Self Respect-I respect myself for being able to do what I always wanted to despite unhealthy criticisms. It means I can do bigger and better things whenever I want to.And now,I know how to do so. Sky is the limit.

Respect for others– I don’t make fun of people who have differently trimmed beard or hairstyle or have nose or lips pierced or tattooed, anymore.I learnt, they had the guts to break unwanted social rules which seem to have restricted ‘gentleman-ship’ in attire and accessories. But its within.Shirt and Trousers, short haircut or pierced ears and tattooed hands don’t define how gentle or wild a man is. These are just: statement of lifestyle-my life my style.
I have got the Guru-By the blessings of my long hair- the guru  🙂  ,I have evolved as a person who can take healthy criticism and avoid unhealthy ones without getting angry.I am at peace with myself and I have a sense of belief that what I want , I can make happen. I have learnt respecting human beings around,no matter, how different they look, behave or believe. My love for my country’s culture, fashion and style-sense pre – East India Company has doubled, when men had long hair and wore ornaments like women and were lot more gentle than the ones in trousers and shirts working for our x-masters. 🙂
what about beard ?
They are just to compliment the long hair! Not everyone will read this post. Some may seriously consider me a man with odd preferences. I am straight! 🙂

Politicizing Uttarakhand Tragedy

On my recent doodle on Uttarakhand Tragedy and its subsequent politicization, one of my regular visitor Vijay Ji (owner of  COMBOUPDATES blog ),made a comment which was so appropriate on the tragedy and the subsequent political developments due to that. I would like to highlight his comment here-“Mysay the vultures are always in hunt for the carcass.“, as his statement is the sole inspiration to this yet another toon on the continued tragedy of the stranded pilgrims are facing, after the floods.Water and Food is being sold to them for unbelievably high prices and sustenance till the rescue team reaches them is becoming difficult. Inhuman behavior from politicians was not a shocker but how about the locals ?

Madras High Court judgement on marriage

The Madras High Court judgement on marriage and sexual relationship went viral on the net.
The judgement spoke of commitment after sexual act. It said if a bachelor has completed 21 years of age and an unmarried woman 18 years, they have acquired the freedom of choice guaranteed by the Constitution. “Consequently, if any couple choose to consummate their sexual cravings, then that act becomes a total commitment with adherence to all consequences that may follow, except on certain exceptional considerations.”
Few  are of the view  that the verdict goes against liberal attitudes like one-night stand and live-in relationship. However, the complete judgement is yet to come and concluding the verdict to be irrational would be senseless as of now.

'You Are in Chinese Territory!'

With even the brigadier level talks failing and Chinese continue to reinforce the camps they built inside 19 kms in Indian Territory and our dear government still discussing available options to handle the issue, looks like ours is a weakest country of all. Despite this invasion , India plans to continue with the joint-military exercises scheduled in October, this year, with Chinese troops  The freshly occupied space now has banner saying-YOU ARE IN CHINESE TERRITORY!
Pakistan kills Sarabjit Singh and Indian Govt keeps silent.Chinese enter and capture Indian land and India remains silent.Bombs blast at frequent intervals , India speaks nothing. Rapes become Indian way of  life, Indian government stares helplessly.Government and private level Scams are synonymous to our country’s name and still India prefers silence.
Peaceful ??
How long ??
Let the neighbours do whatever they wish to ?
Will someone question our administrators .. Whats going On ?

Court frames charges against Irom Sharmila in 'Fast-Unto-Death' case

Better known as the Iron Lady of Manipur,Irom Sharmila, who has been on ‘fast-unto-death’ stir since last 12 years, against the controversial AFSPA(Armed Forces Special Power Act) which is imposed on the state of Manipur , has refused to plead guilty on charges framed by New Delhi court ! Sharmila claimed she was not committing suicide and rather protesting non-violently which is a valid political protest !
Sharmila launched her fast unto death in 2000 after 10 civilians were killed by Assam Rifles personnel near Imphal airport. At present, she is  lodged in a jail and is being fed through her nose at a hospital in Imphal. She was charged under Section 309 when she brought her fast and protest against the AFSPA to Delhi six years ago and since then has been under police custody.
Without getting into the debate of whether disturbed states should continue to be administered by the Armed Forces, there are questions. Isn’t a  fast,a peaceful and non-violent medium of protest in a democracy ? Why a fast-unto-death be compared to crime of attempting suicide under Section 309 of Indian Penal Code? Does this not show the  repeated incompetency of the state and central governments who have failed to bring normalcy in disturbed states of India since several decades now ? How long will it take for the disturbed states to get out of the tangles of ‘Military Raj’ ?
