Last week, General Singh’s leaked letter to the Prime Minister , Manmohan Singh, had listed some of the critical deficiencies in ammunition and equipment.
TMC supremo, Mamata Banerjee’s efforts to pull her own minister,Dinesh Trivedi, down from the post of Railway Minister has failed, so far as the PM clarified , he would want Trivedi to continue till the Budget Session. Now even the pressure from within the party seemed to be failing. Trivedi wants TMC supremo to give in writing that she wants him to quit! Some voices inside the TMC are also rising against the supremo’s stubborn behaviour towards Trivedi.
Mamata Banerjee’s demand to immediatly sack her own party member, Dinesh Trivedi , from the post of Railway Minister because he presented a Rail Budget which hiked ticket fares, has been declined by the Prime Minister , Manmohan Singh. Congress told Bengal Chief Minister that Trivedi should not be sacked at least till the end of Budget Session !
Well, even after being the Congress ally,TMC has difference of opinion with the UPA government on a number of issues and somehow Congress never seem to have dared against didi(Mamata Banerjee) for the fear of Government collapsing, before schedule (2014), in case , TMC withdraws support in agitation. However, this time the demands of Mamata Banerjee to sack Trivedi was declined on the face. What gave Congress the confidence to dare the TMC, all of a sudden ? Well, this is politics and hence there are no permanent friends and enemies, here.Quite possible, if SP(22 seats) or BSP(21 seats) supports UPA in case TMC(19 seats) withdraws the same , the Government would still continue and Mulayam Singh Yadav or Kumari Mayawati can easily bargain his/her support for bigger favours !
Didi and top TMC leaders skip PM dinner invite!
After the top TMC leaders skipped PM’s dinner with allies on Tuesday, today Congress Senior Leader , Pranab Mukherjee warned allies to stand together or the UPA government may fall. Well, it may be targeted on TMC supremo , Mamata Banerjee, as she has been having continued differences with the Congress on quite a number of issues including NCTC where TMC has been demanding amendments!
Although,TMC has cleared that they do not wish to destabilize the UPA , it seems the difference of opinions between Congress and TMC is widening more with the advent of time.
Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh as invited all the UPA allies for dinner on Tuesday 13th March.
Well, is it to convince the allies to stop behaving like opposition parties in the Assembly or is it to demote the idea of a much in rumour Third-Front ?
“The enactment of the RTI is the first significant achievement of the UPA government. This is the first single piece of legislation to ensure transparency and delivery by the government,” Sonia Gandhi had declared in a public rally in New Delhi , in March 2010.
And now the same Right To Information Act seems to have created trouble for her where a Chennai-based RTI activist V Gopalakrishnan had asked for details of Sonia Gandhi’s Income-Tax returns from 2000 to 2011. Revealing the same has been denied, as per sources. The Party is backing her by saying that these information are already with the Income Tax and other concerned departments and revealing such information in public may end up being misused.
Well, it is the Congress which has always held its head high when it comes to taking the credit of RTI and that is worth praising but what is the point of such Act if it does not apply on all the Indians ? What does the party mean by using the word misused ? What is there in the return which if made public would be misused ? Is there any point of such Act which is partial ? Is it not moulding the Act as per convenience ? Why is Mrs Gandhi the special one in this regards ? If this be the case, all the political leaders may shy away from revealing facts in public by giving the same excuse of information may be misused !
Mamata Banerjee meets Manmohan Singh on 22nd February 2012
West Bengal Chief Minister , Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to meet Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh today 22nd february The topic of discussion range from NCTC which she has been opposing and has managed few more chief-ministers to raise their voice against. The National Counter Terrorism Centre which would be a centrally controlled body in various cities to counter terrorist activities would give rights to the body to arrest anyone it finds doubtful , on grounds of terrorist activities. Some states however feel this is against the Federal Structure of the Constitution where the Central Government would intervene into State Affairs and administration. Mamata tops the list of opposers of NCTC. Also issues to be discuss are Farakka Barrage and Gorkhaland.Mamata Banerjee claimed that the Central Government did not reveal that the Farakka Barrage has tow damaged sluice gates which allow Bangladesh extra water during dry seasons. Gorkhaland Territorial Administration issue is also to be discussed under which the implementation of same is yet to happen while the tripartite agreement has already been signed.
Reasons of Conflicts Between Mamata Banerjee and Congress led UPA government in the recent past :
Mamata Banerjee has raised her voice against the ruling UPA in the past on issues relating to the FDI, Pension Bill,Lokpal and Fuel-Price Hike. And it is also noteworthy that relations between Congress and Trinamool Congress have remained tensed in the state of West Bengal after TMC won the elections. In the recent past,Mamata Government has also been denied extra aid from the Government which she felt was mandatory for the smooth running of the state. UPA has so far managed to retain its ally TMC, intact with it but TMC’s tussle with the Central Government and its policies have also been prominent.
NCTC : Mamata strongly believes that this would be against the Federal Structure of the Constitution where the role of Central Government would be beyond guidelines and would hamper State administration procedures.
Lokpal Issue : Mamata Banerjee was upfront on opposing Congress framed Lokpal Bill as she is of the view it would surpass the powers of State Government and would be conflicting.
Fuel-Price Hike: Mamata Banerjee has never entertained fuel-price hike imposed by the Centre.
Change of name of Indira Bhavan to Nazrul Bhavan : Issues related to changing names of Indira Bhavan which was Late Jyoti Basu’s residence and was known as Jyoti Bhavan to Nazrul Bhavan after the name of Bengali poet Kazi Nazrul tensed relations between both party workers . The Congress workers held rallies and protest marches against the change of name.
Mamata since then claimed CPM and Congress jointly act against TMC in the state.
Pension & FDI Bill : Mamata Banerjee never supported Congress’s idea of implementing Foreign Direct Investment into retail sector.
Denial of Extra Central Government Aide to West Bengal has also drifted the parties apart.
