Right from day one , India has been in news in  London Olympics 2012 and yes not for chances of winning medals but for a ‘mystery woman’ from India walking ahead of athletes in the parade during the inauguration ceremony, as if she were an official representative.Madhura Nagendra-the mystery woman, selected for some formal inaugural Indian Dance gave India a controversial start and a reason to be highlighted in news . In a week’s time , between expected disastrous performances in different sports from the athletes , came two controversial decisions against Indian Boxers , Sangwan and Krishan -Reasons to raise voice against and crib about ! Indeed! These decisions ,so vague, do matter but what about the losses in archery,shooting,hockey,tennis and badminton ? The fact remains that where China and the USA are competing with 42 and 43 medals on number 1 and 2 , India(world’s 2nd largest population) stands on number 35 with only 2 medals and neither of the two is gold ! Excluding these controversial decisions, where does India stand ?Are the players to be blamed or the national administration taking care of sports department ? Are we responsible for not taking any sport more serious than Cricket ?The fact is – It is the athletes who need to perform exceptional to lift the morale of the government, the intention of the sponsors and the confidence of the nation!It was because of exceptional performance of Indian Hockey Team and players like Dhyan Chand that India considered hockey as its national game after independence. Today, boxing is considered an important sport just because of  boxers like Vijender Singh Beniwal or Mary Kom have done exceptionally well to make the government and the nation divert brains towards the sport and the opportunities! If today Cricket is considered a religion Team India God’s , it is because the players gave us a reason to be proud winning World Cup twice and numerous other trophies ! Cribbing about few decisions going against Indian athletes cannot hide the fact they are not competent enough and that is the most primary fact !
