The Election Commission of India has asked Rahul Gandhi , the Congress Vice-President , to explain his ‘ISI remark’ after the BJP complained about him of violating the model code of conduct pre-elections. He was given a week’s time while his office said he remained busy during the festival hence the commission has granted him another 4 days to explain. In one of his speeches in the recent past, Rahul Gandhi had said that some security agencies informed him that the minority riot victims of the Muzaffarnagar riots are being contacted by Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI to join terror outfits. Rahul had accused the BJP of playing communal politics even in Muzaffarnagar riots which is provoking differences between communities.
Rahul Gandhi’s speeches always remain under the radar of Media and Opposition as much as Narendra Modi’s and this is yet another addition to his controversial statements in the past. His previous theories like Poverty is a state of Mind and Dalits need Jupiter’s escape velocity to succeed are already popular and it seems like the ISI recruitment theory would need an explanation too.
In response to Election Commission of India seeking views from nation’s political parties on banning Opinion Polls , the Congress has favoured banning such opinion polls completely declaring it unscientific and non-transparent. The party explained that such results can make a misleading impact on voters. Other parties including the main opposition,BJP, said that the Congress was concerned about the recent Opinion Poll surveys which show Congress performing very poor and hence backing a ban.
Prime Minister,Dr Singh and Gujarat Chief Minister,Narendra Modi, shared stage in Ahmedabad while inaugurating the renovated Museum of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. Both the leaders praised Sardar Patel for his contribution as a patriotic politician of his times and took the opportunity to hit out at eachother as well.Modi said Sardar Patel deserved to be the first Prime Minister of the nation and had he been the PM the fortune of the country would have been different.Manmohan Singh countered Modi by stating Sarder Patel was a secular man and that he and Nehru(the first Indian PM) had deep mutual respect.
Rahul Gandhi has been regularly making news these days with his statements at different rallies. To add another feather to his list of remarkable statements , he recalled while campaigning for 2009 elections in Bundelkhand,he got stomach bugs due to drinking village water and was bitten by about 25000 mosquitoes. BTW, is there any gadget to count the number of mosquitoes attacking us ? 😀
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that he was not above the law of the land and that CBI can ask him anything on coal scam and that he had nothing to hide. The opposition demanded his interrogation and resignation as he held direct charge of the Coal Ministry when two coal blocks in Odisha were assigned to a firm owned by industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla. Interestingly, the CBI, is ideally considered Govt’s pet. 🙂
