PM's stern warning to Italy to send accused marines back

Prime Minister,Manmohan Singh, has sent a strong warning to Italy to send the two Italian marines back to India who are facing charges of killing two Indian fishermen . With orders from Supreme Court of India the two marines were allowed to go back to Italy for attending elections and were scheduled to be coming back within 22nd of March’13. While the Italian Foreign Ministry has declared that the marines won’t be sent back to India for trial, all the pre-assurance from the officials of the country to the Supreme Court of India stood void. With the opposition targeting the government for being ‘soft’ on the issue because it has to do with Italy , PM Singh probably had to warn Italy of ‘consequences’ if the marines are not returned !

Looks like, the issue is bound to take up a big shape soon. Till then India should be celebrating that our PM has broken his silence at last and its a clear message -” Don’t Angry Me” .  🙂

Italian Marines accused of killing Kerala fishermen not to return for trial

Released after 105 days in judicial custody under strict bail conditions and assurances from the Italian Government, the two marines of an Italian Navy Vessel Protection Detachment (VPD) accused for killing two Indian fishermen from Kerala, mistaking them as pirates, are not going to come back to India for the court trial as announced by the Italian Foreign Ministry.

They were released to travel to Italy in February, this year, to vote in national elections and now Italy has put on stake the diplomatic relationship with India by dishonouring their commitment to Indian Supreme Court of  letting the accused marines back to India for trial.

The Indian Foreign Ministry looks speechless( as mostly expected) and the Indian government has stated the act is ‘not acceptable'(as usual and as if saying this would make any difference to Italy) . The opposition has been accusing the Government of being ‘soft’ on the issue. Why ?  🙂

Italy not to send back marines to India charged for Kerela fishermen murder

While, some may argue,it is a shameful act on part of Italy to falsify its own assurances but it also speaks about the kind of importance they give to their citizens and for which they have gone to the extent of giving forged assurances and risking diplomatic relation with a country they have been friendly with since decades. Two Indian lives were taken by two Italians and it would really be important to know if our administrators are as bothered about us (be it,after our death) as much the Italian Government is bothered about their lives !

Or Like the opposition, even you accuse the Indian government of being ‘soft’ on the issue ?  😉

Just out of the topic , the Indian government could win awards for using two words most frequently, to address any issue- We Condemn (say …if there is a terror attack ) and the second is -Its Unacceptable (say…if Pakistan denies its hand in terror attacks ) . Can we have some serious actions against nations taking India so lightly ? Please ?

Modi served legal notice for calling PM Night Watchman

A Congress leader from Bangalore has sent a legal notice to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi asking him to apologise and withdraw his remarks calling Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh a “night watchman” of the Gandhi family !

😀  Just a thought !

What will happen at Congress Senior leader,Digvijay Singh’s office if he starts getting legal notices for passing remarks. He never spares passing remarks (derogatory, mostly, not always 😀 ) anyone who dares standing against Congress ? 😀  He would become an undisputed back to back record holder of most number of legal notices for passing remarks . 🙂

When 'communal' Modi defined 'secularism' ?

After the Wharton India Economic Forum cancelled Mr Narendra Modi’s address to the prestigious annual event due to opposition from a section of professors and students of the University of Pennsylvania, Gujarat’s  Chief Minister, Narendra Modi addressed the Indian diaspora in Edison, New Jersey, Chicago and Illinois on March 9 via video
conferencing.

While addressing the Indo-American community Modi shared his definition of secularism as “India First” .

Narendra Modi says secularism to him is ‘India First’

While the whole speech was interesting enough to judge Modi’s political approach and strategic statements keeping 2014 General Elections in mind, the definition of secularism makes me restless enough to think about the literal meaning of secularism in our country since Independence.

What is secularism in India, post independence ? In India, a country packed with people following different faith, speaking different languages and following different lifestyles, the meaning of secularism , so far, has been vote bank politics and nothing else! Face it! The term minority got hyped not for the minorities but for vested political interest .The political well-wishers of schedule – castes/tribes and people following religions with lesser density, made sure they use every individual following under their set !

Result – Its been more than 60 years since we are a free land yet honour-killing still exists and so does the constant fear of communal riots.
A concerning question to think about – What have the secular political forces given India while they had got the maximum opportunity to rule the nation ? Were/Are they really bothered going beyond their vote bank interests and think about India , first ?

No , I am not a die-hard , Narendra Modi fan.I am not going crazy to see him be the next Prime Minister or feel he is the only way out for India to shine.Relax ! 2002 Gujarat riots brought Narendra Modi the recognition and for any secular Indian(including me) it was not a right image of the name.A name which is a synonym to development 11 years since then ! Although his achievements can never justify his controversial role(as the chief minister of the state of Gujarat) in 2002 riots yet it cannot be denied as well that he has actually worked for his state, hard enough! He has worked hard for who he is today and just not played politics like many ‘secular’ politicians of the nation have done for over few decades now.

Yes, criticisms are there and even God has critics and thankfully he is not God for many ! They are minimal(criticisms and people who consider him God, both 🙂 ).While, one can argue the minorities(Muslims)of the state have no choice but to go with the political flow of the state to seek development of their constituencies,it is also noteworthy that the Muslim dominated constituencies have actually seen development under BJP’s regime and it was this time, that even the minority dominated constituencies (previously,Congress dominated) voted for the “communal leader”-Modi.

While, many of us,the urban, literate,’secular’, Indians may still find Modi an uncomfortable figure to talk positive about, there is no denying he is a great speaker and a consistent political performer. Modi has already made himself number one of the favorites as the Prime Ministerial Candidate for 2014 General Elections(As per many surveys. Surveys are just surveys so anti-Modis need not worry 🙂 ).

Coming back to Narendra Modi’s definition of secularism-when he says secularism to him is “India First” he should make sense even to an Indian who may hate him the most. Why ? Secularism is to unite and its our nation which unites us-Indians with varied skin colour, faith, languages, lifestyle, castes, state and many more sub-sets ! Hence our nation should be our foremost priority for every Indian!! Is considering caste, religion, state or language above national identity not Communal-ism ? Should the so called secular political forces not stop categorizing Indians as schedule castes and tribes and as Christians and Muslims by giving them certain privileges over the majority and making the rift deeper! Being an Indian one should give importance to his nationality over his caste or religion ! Secularism in true sense is -Nation First !

Court frames charges against Irom Sharmila in 'Fast-Unto-Death' case

Better known as the Iron Lady of Manipur,Irom Sharmila, who has been on ‘fast-unto-death’ stir since last 12 years, against the controversial AFSPA(Armed Forces Special Power Act) which is imposed on the state of Manipur , has refused to plead guilty on charges framed by New Delhi court ! Sharmila claimed she was not committing suicide and rather protesting non-violently which is a valid political protest !

Sharmila launched her fast unto death in 2000 after 10 civilians were killed by Assam Rifles personnel near Imphal airport. At present, she is  lodged in a jail and is being fed through her nose at a hospital in Imphal. She was charged under Section 309 when she brought her fast and protest against the AFSPA to Delhi six years ago and since then has been under police custody.

Without getting into the debate of whether disturbed states should continue to be administered by the Armed Forces, there are questions. Isn’t a  fast,a peaceful and non-violent medium of protest in a democracy ? Why a fast-unto-death be compared to crime of attempting suicide under Section 309 of Indian Penal Code? Does this not show the  repeated incompetency of the state and central governments who have failed to bring normalcy in disturbed states of India since several decades now ? How long will it take for the disturbed states to get out of the tangles of ‘Military Raj’ ?

Super Rich to pay more taxes – Budget 2013-14

While the ‘Aam Aadmi’ seem to have been spared by the Union Finance Ministry,F.M. P Chidambaram, has put the burden of charging 10 percent extra levy from 42,800 Super-Rich Indians(individuals and corporate) who earn more than 1 crore per annum. While some refer this budget as the ‘Robin hood Budget’ many claim the budget was prepared keeping 2014 General Elections in mind !

The corrupt politicians surely do not fall in this slab  😀  as they do not earn that much !  🙂

Guess,’King Of Good Times’ – Vijay Mallya,is still in the Special 42,800 list, after the Kingfisher Airlines mess  ! 😀

Police case against 111 people for FB posts against Kurien in Suryanelli gangrape case!

A case was filed against 111 people for allegedly passing defamatory remarks against Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman,P.J.Kurien, on facebook, relating to the Suryanelli gangrape case! A Woman Congress leader has filed the case claiming most of these defamatory remarks were against her as she backed P.J.Kurien on the Suryanelli gangrape issue. There was one person who had updated his status on facebook which read against Kurien and 110 people shared it, thereby, inviting police case under Sec 66A for sending offensive and annoying messages via computer or related device.

What else can be a better example of democracy and freedom in our country ? Is this a democracy for the political leaders only and constitutional freedom for them to curb down voices of  ‘Aam Aadmi ‘ and attack their freedom of speech by filing cases for expressing personal views ?

Bristish PM David Cameron denies giving back Kohinoor diamond to India

Kohinoor, the 105 karat diamond which is among one of the largest diamonds in the world and is on display in Tower Of London was taken away from India by the British during the colonial era. While,India has been requesting  it back since decades , today the British Prime Minister declined any chances of the diamond being returned back siting his disbelief in ‘returnism’ and that the country is anyways taking care of it. He also visited the Jaliawala Bagh and declared the incident of 1919( where the police opened fire at unarmed civilians killing and wounding 100s at the Jaliawalah Bagh) as shameful.
