Labour Strike in India on February 28th And Politics Of Bengal!

mamata banerjee,mukul,bandh cartoon image,
TMC against 28th feb labour strike

What is considered to be the voice of trade unions affiliated to most of the mainstream political parties protesting against price rise, violation of labour rights and the Government’s free market policies like disinvestment in public sector companies and privatisation of services is a matter of concern for the ruling UPA, in the centre and a fight of political superiority, in Bengal. The contest is between TMC and CPM,directly in the state.

Is the core issue of strike ‘Power Test’ between TMC & CPM in Bengal ?

CITU called Bandh-Industrial Strike , supported by parent CPI(M) on 28th February 2012 in Bengal today forced the CM Mamata Banerjee admit that strikes do not help any State and Nation. She also ended up apologizing to the people of Bengal for using Bandhs as strongest weapon against the ruling CPM government, in the past. She requested Bengal not to participate in the Industrial Strike and assured necessary arrangements of smooth running of government-run transports like the trains, trams, metro and government buses and warned government officials of actions against the absentees!

Well, it is only after 12 hours from now will we get to know if these appeals and apologies worked for TMC as it was the same party which would frequent the state with regular Bandhs on every possible matter, mostly to show the then ruling Government, the strength and support it was generating, with every passing day.Not to forget, it has rarely been the call or support of issues and political parties, that was behind the success of all the Bandhs but it was the habit of getting used to with the unofficial holidays and spending leisure time, which had been forcing the state to accept any strikes, be it from any party. One cannot deny the chances of violence between supporters of strikes and the ones who wish to attend offices, however, it mostly became reason of a holiday, unquestioned!

Today, it is the opposition which is exploding the same bomb of Strikes on the ruling TMC , mostly to show the strength, it is regaining or to check the strength, after the loss of governance. Topics are too petty to call for a strike yet no big deal if the habituated citizens of Bengal would prefer to spend a leisure time at home while the opposition would claim success of the strike and give TMC a reality-check. On the other side, it is a testing time for Mamata Banerjee , who will have to make sure the Strike has minimum impact. Although, sensing the urgency she already apologized a day before for all the strikes she promoted as opposition party and by appealing Bengal not to support the Bandh! Mamata Banerjee has indicated crackdown measures to ensure the strike doe not effect the state.

Reasons of Conflicts Between Mamata Banerjee and Congress led UPA government in the recent past :

Mamata Banerjee has raised her voice against the ruling UPA in the past on issues relating to the FDI, Pension Bill,Lokpal and Fuel-Price Hike. And it is also noteworthy that relations between Congress and Trinamool Congress have remained tensed in the state of West Bengal after TMC won the elections. In the recent past,Mamata Government has also been denied extra aid from the Government which she felt was mandatory for the smooth running of the state. UPA has so far managed to retain its ally TMC, intact with it but TMC’s tussle with the Central Government and its policies have also been prominent.

NCTC : Mamata strongly believes that this would be against the Federal Structure of the Constitution where the role of Central Government would be beyond guidelines and would hamper State administration procedures.

Lokpal Issue : Mamata Banerjee was upfront on opposing Congress framed Lokpal Bill as she is of the view it would surpass the powers of State Government and would be conflicting.

BMC Elections-Sena BJP alliance wins again

With the total of 106 seats the Sena -BJP alliance stood out of all speculations of being thrown out this time in the country’s richest civic body election – BMC.

The NCP – Congress Alliance got 66 seats while 28 seats went to MNS. 27 went others including independent candidates out of the total 227 seats. Joining hands with some independent candidates the Sena-BJP would be back in power of BMC.

While much was anticipated about MNS nothing seemed impressive enough to shake the ruling Sena-BJP alliance out from the throne of BMC.

Raj Thackeray analysed low-turnouts of voters as the major reason of Sena’s win and also the alliance of BJP. Well, reasons may be whatever, results clearly state that Raj Thackeray and his MNS has a long way to go unearth the Shiv Sena and divert Sena supporters.

Raj Thackeray’s Answer on Uncle Bal Thackeray’s Offer!

In a recent interview , Sena Supremo Bal Thackeray had made an open offer to rebel nephew , Raj Thackeray also the Supremo of  MNS (another Sena, split out of Shiv Sena) to take a first step ahead and he is open to accept Raj back in Shiv Sena. The doors of Shiv Sena are always open for Raj provided he initiates.

Answering this Raj opened his heart out saying he could walk 100 steps for his uncle Bal Thackeray whom he claimed still respects very much and also declared his grudge against  the functioning of Uddhav Thackeray , the son of the Shiv Sena Supremo and other Sena leaders! He explained about his services in Shiv Sena were only limited to addressing rallies prior to elections while key jobs were handled by others.

Well, this is not a hidden fact that Uddhav and Raj never got along with each other and hence it was Raj who had to take a call, either to be in the Shiv Sena and keep doing as being told or leave politics . However, he had other things in mind and hence floated his own party. The Unique Selling Point of the new party remained the same as the Sena’s where love for state of Maharashtra and Marathis were highlighted. The only difference was Shiv Sena with the advent of time since birth had become a little diplomatic as they had tied – up with national level parties while the new Sena , being a new – born baby and desperate to make its presence felt , has been aggressive towards portraying as a party just for Marathis.

Raj Thackeray has been following the footsteps of his uncle exactly , so far hence more than other opponent political parties , it’s the MNS which is becoming a bigger challenge for Shiv Sena as both share the common vote-bank of Marathi Manus.
