The Supreme Court of Pakistan disqualified Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani as Prime Minister with retrospective effect from April 26 when it held him in contempt of court. Contempt of court proceedings had been initiated against Gilani in January for repeatedly refusing to write to Swiss authorities asking for reopening of graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.
Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa, on Monday presided over a mass marriage ceremony at Tiruverkadu, a temple town on the outskirts of Chennai. 1006 couples got married here and the couples were blessed by ‘Amma’ (Jayalalitha) and were presented with he ‘mangalsutras’ in gold (four grams) and ‘mettis’ (toe-rings) in silver weighing six grams, the brides and grooms were given 28 types of gifts which included silk saris, dhotis, utensils and ‘kamakshi’ lamps. All the brides and bridegrooms were brought to Tiruverkadu on Saturday evening as ‘Amma’ wanted them and their relatives to avoid journeying by night. They came by state transport corporation buses, which were accompanied by a medical team.Amazingly, this mass wedding ceremony broke all caste barriers setting an example of equality among all.Yet amazing was, the state incurred about Rs 4.5 crores on this mass-wedding 😀 while the credit is encashed by the state governmet and the Chief Minister ‘Amma’. Public Money goes for a public welfare and the politicians get praised for doing what they are supposed to do ! 😀
Defence Minister, A.K.Antony’s wife has reportedly sold eight of her paintings to Airport Authority Of India for Rs 28 crores only 😀 . She has also donated 3.5 lakhs (probably out of this ) to her NGO which she runs for Cancer Patients(So generous 🙂 ).
Well, there is nothing wrong in being an artist (of class) and simultaneously being a wife of an Indian politician as that gives an edge to be able to demonstrate your art in a bigger social and political circle. Not all painters in India are that lucky to be able to sell there artwork for that high pricing. In fact there are many politicians in India, allegedly involved in Scams who can better ask their wives or children to start doing some art work (and nurture the hidden talent inside) and the Airport Authority and so many other government run offices are there to buy those artworks and paintings for lakhs and crores 🙂 .
Digvijaya Singh, senior leader of Congress , who is more popular for contradicting and counter-attacking Team Anna,Baba Ramdev and almost anyone and everyone who talks against the UPA government, repeatedly criticized Mamata Banerjee on the camera for not supporting UPA in Presidential Poll. In his interview to a news channel, he declared, how disappointed and frustrated Congress had become to take ‘tantrums’ of Mamata Banerjee. Sensing the emergence of the situation , the Congress party, in a media release declared that Digvijaya Singh was not officially authorized to talk on behalf of the Congress Party in the media. Realizing that TMC supremo is still a reliable ally compared to the SP which can change stands at any instance, the Congress must have thought its better not to give wrong signals to Mamata Banerjee.
Surely,Digvijaya Singh must have lost his face after the statement released from his party ! 🙁
India Cements’ Managing Director and BCCI Chief , N Srinivisan was questioned for about 7 hours, today,by the CBI in connection with his company-India Cements’ investment of Rs 140 crore in various companies promoted by Jagan Mohan Reddy, the MP who is arrested by CBI under disproportionate assets case.
Dr Kalam conveyed his message of opting out from the President’s Poll to BJP Senior Leader, Lal Krishna Advani and this has left the NDA alliance in a fix. Dr Kalam was the only candidate the NDA was willing to build consensus on.Parties like Akalidal and JDU of the NDA are willing to support Pranab Mukherjee, the contestant from the UPA. Seems like there is no stopping for Pranab Mukherjee with Dr Kalam dropping the idea of contesting for the President’s Post.
TMC supremo and key-ally of UPA government, Mamata Banerjee had stated on Thursday that she and SP head,Mulayam Singh Yadav were steadfast in their support for Dr Abdul Kalam as the next president . However, on Friday the SP extended support to Pranab Mukherjee’s candidature. Mulayam Singh Yadav has been known for changing decisions, at the very last moment, many a times in his political career and this time it was Didi, the leader known for sticking by her words,on the suffering end! The TMC has termed Mr Singh a Traitor and has recalled that they still support Dr Kalam for the Presidential Candidature.
The ever unhappy allies TMC and Congress of the UPA alliance has a different view on the selection of Presidential Candidate as well. Mamata Banerjee has cleared her support for Dr APJ Kalam and even the NDA is indicating its interest towards Dr Kalam and Samajwadi Party Supremo seems to be supporting Mamata’s decision. Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee also stated that she would leave if the UPA thinks her party is a liability to the alliance.
Congress, on the other hand, is doing all it would take to make Pranab Mukherjee the President.
Well, out of the two candidates,Dr Kalam and Pranab Mukherjee, undoubtedly the position is much deserved by Dr Kalam whom one can trust as a President of deeds. He would never take decisions partially favouring any specific political party at the cost of national interest. But 2014 elections results are so predictable about an upcoming inconsistent government that Congress well not leave any stones unturned to make sure Pranab Mukherjee becomes the President to favour the Congress in situations of political crises. Anyways,it is Indian Politics and anytime a third name may emerge and become the President, to surprise the nation! 🙂
