Bollywood Movies promote sports other than cricket-reports

Chak De India promoted Hockey and it got dearer to Indian since then although it was an important sport 2 decades back.

Bhag Milkha Bhag is expected to promote athletics of the nation.Previously,Paan Singh Tomar had promoted the same.

Prior to that, Apne was all about Boxing and Bend it Like Beckham and Goal promoted football . There are many more movies which are a reason why the Indians are thinking beyond cricket.

But is bollywood’s impact limited to Sports ? πŸ˜‰

hheh…Jack you forgot Ram Gopal Verma and Prakah Jha..they are two people who come wth Poltics based films showing corruptions and all πŸ™‚ Although jha’s movies are watchable…RGV ki films are like migraine (sorry no better word πŸ˜› )
I am desperately waiting for a film that shows Gilli-Danda as a sport…too much to hope eh?

Sometimes i wonder though how films get the stories in advance. i mean u see some breaking news today and in a weeks time there would be one major release showing one major dhandhalee of today. i guess this could be one reel vs real life discussion. So is reality the inspiration for Bollywood block blusters or it is otherwise. lets mull over this issue like how the sincere students at JNU mulled over all night why Kundan (Dhanush) was a thief.
Kundan was a thief because he was poor. Why was he poor… because he was unemployed…Why was he unemployed…because of overpopulation…
Finally the mulling over sees Kundan as a chaiwalah
Yeah that scene from the movie Ranjhanaa…
    Alas!
Enjoyed rather was very provoked to go on my own talking spree. See what ur cartoons make me do.
i am trying hard to be a listener…to talk less…
Darn! if not tongue but the mind goes wagging again…

it feels good when one appreciates and feels great when someone relates .. I am feeling great ! πŸ™‚ A cartoon is ideally made thinking about many things and making a summary of them..i may not be that great but intentions are always that. πŸ™‚
I am glad you could connect and could speak your heart out..I have seen the movie and recalling the scene made me smile.
I am you.. we are the commoners .. we need dialogues ..I am glad I have someone who speaks her heart out on issues that boggle my brains..and force me to draw .
Only conversations can yield result .. and instigate one and many for opt for change. πŸ™‚

True, Bolywood has a definite impact on our day-to-day life. And the impact is some time very strong – both positive and negative.

Nice blog, I must say. There are movies like Iqbal and Awal number on cricket too… Bollywood’s impact isn’t limited to sports only, it flirts with plitics and politicians too but those movies always goes into some controversies like the Sarkar or Aarakshan…’Playing’ safe, I would say!

bollywood inspires a lot of things! politics, crime, fashion, romance…etc etc… how many things that we see in movies get replicated in real life…. sometimes wonder if writers are inspired by real life or real life is inspired by movies!

Bollywood influences entire nation, every man in every field. Once I asked a man ( a distant relative) why he beats up his wife ( it was a simple discussion, no accusation or anything) , that man tells me he has seen it in Hindi movies. Ab bolo!!!

    1. My Say

Indrani. hope not his wife watches some Bollywood movies like – Tejaswini or Kahani !! He might have a harder time if she watches some movie where the wife retaliates πŸ™

I think Hockey did .. and so did other games but the credit can never be entirely given to bollywood .. changing times .. people wish to think beyond cricket and tennis … when we see Australia as a sports country we notice we are just kind of good in cricket and they are best in almost every sport .. πŸ™‚
