Long Hair-My Guru!

Why I grew them?
well it was my childhood fantasy to look like Arjun Rampal 🙂 So what if I did not look that handsome.I could grow hair as long as his. Then came Rockstar ( the movie ) and this time I wanted my hair that long. 🙂
Why not ever before?
Parents, siblings, beloved, friends, the society as a whole.. Someone always had something to say when they would see my hair a little longer than usual and instigate me to change my mind.
How long will I keep them?
Till my learning is over.till I am sure, I will follow religiously what i have learnt from my guru.
Learn?? !! You kidding me??You got a guru who asked you to grow hair?
No.I ain’t! 🙂
You learnt??What did you learn growing your hair this long?
I learnt :

Patience-it takes a lot of it while drying them rubbing with the towel everyday after taking a bath and then untangling them with comb. And I find,I am being more patient toward everyone and everything, rather than reacting in anger or frustration.Helps developing relationship.
Control on Anger- trust me!anger exploded initially, after I would come out from bath.5 mins and above rubbing the towel on my head and then combing the hair for good 10 mins to untangle.Choice was simple- either I quit or do this everyday.I chose the second and once I stopped being frustrated and angry,I started taking lesser time drying my hair and then untangling and combing them.Slowly,I applied controlling anger with people around and rather apply brains and get things done faster. It works miracles.

Concentration– that’s something I learnt only recently.Taming your wet hair everyday from drying them to slowly untangling and then back-brushing takes 100 percent concentration. You just cannot do without it if you really want to save time and peace of mind and bit of knotted-hair which you would ideally intend plucking off, every time you comb.I somehow, noticed I have developed the ability to concentrate at whatever I am doing any given moment. This is giving  me better output everywhere.

Discipline-I am lot more disciplined now.No more getting ready in haste.I know my hair would take time hence I pre-schedule my bathing time and accordingly everything else.Slowly, I have realized I love being disciplined , on time, and proper. With long hair, you just cannot take things casual. No more, just a boy who can put a pair of jeans and t-shirt on and spray the deodorant around put the shoes on and leave, anytime!

Sense of Achievement-Some compliment, some call me a rockstar, some also stare and many have an issue(as i mentioned in my previous post) but I feel I have achieved what I wanted to since childhood. How many times,I had to give up on my wish because of social norms which is inspired by the Brits. Two years of not getting a hair cut done simply means” when you gotta go… you gotta go !! ”  🙂

Self Respect-I respect myself for being able to do what I always wanted to despite unhealthy criticisms. It means I can do bigger and better things whenever I want to.And now,I know how to do so. Sky is the limit.

Respect for others– I don’t make fun of people who have differently trimmed beard or hairstyle or have nose or lips pierced or tattooed, anymore.I learnt, they had the guts to break unwanted social rules which seem to have restricted ‘gentleman-ship’ in attire and accessories. But its within.Shirt and Trousers, short haircut or pierced ears and tattooed hands don’t define how gentle or wild a man is. These are just: statement of lifestyle-my life my style.
I have got the Guru-By the blessings of my long hair- the guru  🙂  ,I have evolved as a person who can take healthy criticism and avoid unhealthy ones without getting angry.I am at peace with myself and I have a sense of belief that what I want , I can make happen. I have learnt respecting human beings around,no matter, how different they look, behave or believe. My love for my country’s culture, fashion and style-sense pre – East India Company has doubled, when men had long hair and wore ornaments like women and were lot more gentle than the ones in trousers and shirts working for our x-masters. 🙂
what about beard ?
They are just to compliment the long hair! Not everyone will read this post. Some may seriously consider me a man with odd preferences. I am straight! 🙂

  1. Kya likha hai yaar *seeeeeeeeeeeeti* If growing long hair develops so many good qualities than i think each n every man should start growing thier hair! 🙂 Kuddos to u n ur Guruji! Inspired yet again! 🙂

  2. Haha, this deserves a place in Cosmo hall of fame! I wonder why we women are conceited and not evolved about our hair- the world would be a better place if we did!

    1. Well.. wisdom costs !! Seeking knowledge means salvation of a kind … after bearing odds is what makes one stronger within 🙂 I need to know God before I die 🙂 😉

  3. Geetashree Chatterjee

Well if all men thought like you Ram Rajya would again be instituted in our Bharat Mahaan sooner!!! And as per your post, which is unique and needless to say, excellent, all mod women are losing on patience, discipline, anger management, self-control, self esteem and all such invaluable virtues because of their increasingly shorter hair!!! Food for introspection…

    1. Thanks for liking the post 🙂 Glad,I am ! Its true , that men and even woman of the age are turning rough , angry and arrogant .. guess none has that peace of mind.. it is a rat race .. but I am on a trip to earth .. till the visa expires I will not waste time trying to do everything .. will rather walk as tourist .. financed by God .. enjoying every breath to the fullest. Had i not grown them so long .. I would not have realized .. I am just tourist and my job is to explore , learn, share , enjoy , in whatever I do …till my visa expires. There is no race where I need to participate .. i better be the audience who blissfully enjoys the game going on 🙂

    1. Well wisdom costs .. and yet is priceless 😀 .. I will indeed .. my friend .. first let me learn from the guru on my head only then wisdom I will spread 😉

  5. Nitesh, finally mystery unravelled. Although I keep on swinging between long and short hair, neither do I have patience nor any other quality that you have gained from your experience. 🙁

    1. no issues Pankti ..life is a preacher and long hair is just a single medium 🙂 you have other things to learn from as well 🙂 Best of Luck !! 😉

        1. Pankti..sometimes not learning is the best learning .. for me I have always been a student who never wanted to learn… until I ended up growing hair 😀

          1. thats the magic you dint need to find or do anything.. lessons will start and by the time you finish the last semester you would know life has completed a session already with u 🙂 Trust me !

  6. MySay, I wish you could see me at this point in time…it’s a standing ovation. Trust Me! I ain’t lying. You have indeed broken all those barriers and for good reason. I’m definitely make my Bro go thru this wonderful piece. You’ve actually taught a few lessons to me too. Thank you, Guru! 🙂
More than your long hair, it’s the thoughts that you’ve shared that’s inspired me.
Passing on the piece for the betterment of mankind. 😀

    1. I am overwhelmed , thankful and glad .. its an honour to be complimented that big..
      I wish I were a Guru 🙂 hehe .. its a great business these days , ain’t it ?
I am facing the waves of criticisms for I think wisdom charges its share of fee.. 🙂
This compliment of yours indeed made my day ! Thanks a ton and more,Rekha 🙂

  7. With due respect … cheers to the feeling which did not shook under social pressure and evolved like a true hero ….
Ps. if you think the above lines are too intense for this post .. think again …

    1. No bro .. thanks for an intense comment .. I had written it with full intensity.. some of my regular visitors .. took it as my regular humour post 🙁 Thanks for understanding 🙂

  8. First of all let me tell you – I too have long hair 🙂 and I enjoy. Make me your guru-bhai 🙂
Very nice post and I can see my experience there…

  9. Two thoughts came to my mind after reading this post, totally different and one is bizarre. One is ‘Hair-Karma’ and other one is ‘Baal ki Dhukan,’ remember that Coke commercial. But you know if girls can introspect and learn that much from long hair, life would be so easy. 🙂

    1. 🙂 I am glad the message was rightly delivered .. whatelse 🙂
well.. i believe .. jo bhagwan nei diya hai to usko flaunt karne mei koi kharabi nahi .. waise bhi mei angrezon ke saare rules ke khilaaf hun !! 🙂
India had .. men with Baal Ki Dukaan pre British and I believe when they are gone better remove their definition of gentlemen 🙂

  10. I wanted to share this… You growing ur hair and wearing it long was good so far it pleases u and by Gawd u sure have learnt lots.
U know i have very short hair like boys and when i did away with my tresses it was known as the pageboy cut. i’ve had it for so many years now that i have forgotten my long hair look completely. My reasons were simpler than urs though.
    1) something to keep it simple and tangle+maintenance free.
    2) i would never have a bad hair day.
But but but i sure do miss wearing that single piece of jewellery i love the most. i don’t know what they call them in English but in Hindi it is called Maangteeka…you know the small chain with a pendant that hangs on the forehead. Somehow it looks pathetic with pageboy cut. Seriously…grow them long or cut them short…The hair does teach us something…all the time.
Enjoyed ur post and felt like talking…

    1. I loved your comment so much 🙂 thanks for sharing your experience of standing against the waves.. I feel.. its all about lifestyle – my Life my Style! So we are surely the passengers of the same boat 🙂 Life teaches lessons, the best, only when we travel the less frequented path..for u and me the hair style and length is such a less frequented path 🙂
Yes indeed Maangteeka looks best in long hair .. but then everything has pros and cons .. aint it ?
      Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

      1. Hey this is such a great post – its more than about hair and styles – your personality just shines thru = silky straight ! ( I never was able to tame my mane as ppl call it ) the few times I tried salon, it stayed straightened for 5 mins. Then it went back to wild wavy – okayee.. how long is this guru… MySay, post us a pic ?

        1. hehe .. forsure .. I will post my deadly looks but just before I decide its time I let go my Guru 🙂
Its one heck of a job to maintain long silky clean and clear hair every day .. and so far I have been able to keep my Guru happy ! I want to cut them short once I know the lessons of patience and control on anger and self respect and belief run through my veins and have become a faith 🙂

    1. hehehe..where do we find womankind with tresses,so often 🙂 Indeed the ones who have are subtle in nature and are inspiration .. the example I can site is my mother 🙂
Thank you ma’m for dropping by ma’m and expressing your views.

    1. What a moral of the story 🙂 Loved it !! Indeed combing long hair means .. doing Yoga 😀 Jai Ho Indian Woman who still keep tresses 🙂

  11. First of its kind! 🙂
I have never read long hair to be a guru. You have learned a lot from this guru and i am glad you passed on some of it to us.

    1. hehe true that .. its the determination which they have .. which they actually learn by maintaining long hair over years and years !! 🙂
Good things are worth learning from from anyone . Ain’t it Sir ?

  12. kya Baat hai Jack.. 🙂 aapke guruji kaun sa hair oil use karte hain? Hehe…a very different post than your usual ones..I mean less of doodle speaking this time 🙂 but I am really amazed how beautifully you have comprehended and have come up with such an innovative post out of a really simple concept..your Long Hair! Kudos!!
Now would really like to see ya photo and your guruji..apni photo bhi ulpoad karo next time 😀 😉

    1. Thanks Jiggs !! 🙂 I appreciate you liked the preaching of my Long Hair .. my Guru ji 🙂
When I leave my guruji ( get my hair cut done) before that I will upload me with my guruji on my head 😉 .. i am sure to impress a few of my readers .. ofcourse female 😉 😀

  13. Now you see…girls with long hair have all these qualities…unless they prefer a messy bun kinda updo like me 😛
What about hair spa anyways?? Since you have decided it all…give your hair a pump with the hair spa! It works wonders, you can have my word on that 😀

    1. hair spa !! hmm !! I do it at home .. followed few articles on the blog on hair spa .. at home 😀
Its like facial of spirituality 😀

  14. Now I know why all the learned men of ancient India had long hairs…. 😀 :D….I am showing it to all the aunties out here so that they allow their young grasshoppers to grow the hair…..

  15. the little princess

holy cow!! with such an able “Guru” who needs any more….!! A big whistle for this one!!

  16. Aye haye.. what a post.. what a post Jack… Long hair the Guru, who knew eh? 😀
Guess we all learn from every thing that happens around us, to us etc.. we just need to realize it; a forgotten lesson surfaced trhough you 🙂
Btw, You rub and comb your wet hair 😮
I shrieked while reading it.. emni korishna baba.. taak hoye jaabe :-/

    1. well… I should thank you for thinking on same lines 🙂 . Long hair mustache and/or beard is ethnic and the definition of true Indian men before being slaves to the East India Company.
I choose to be ethnic 🙂 I choose not to be a mental slave to the West anymore.
Its funny … that Short haircut is considered apt for tropical weather … and coats are considered formal wear in the same weather conditions. 😀
Ok we sweat hence short hair is better but the same does not apply on coats ? 😀 I have been to hundreds of business gatherings and weddings and even in the Month of May and June .. the dress code of the gentlemen 😉 of India remains a coat 😀
We are suffering from identity crises … aint we ? hehehe I can write on and on 😀 on this .. about the way we are still slaves to what west considers right.

      1. We surely are suffering from identity crisis. They attacked our culture, which made us weak and submissive. Replacing hand-loom products with British ones, cotton with polyester , beards with clean shave, gurukuls with english medium schools etc etc. Sad. our culture is strong , we will surely bounce back and become the mighty ‘Bharat’ again. 🙂

  18. I back you on that .. we are a strong culture and bouncing back is on cards and in a decade or two 🙂 There are so many good things to learn from the West … but we categorically picked up resembling them by looking like them and not thinking like them… the biggest example is work ethics .. I have got ample opportunity to work with Brits and Americans .. who do not believe in working overtime and yet meet deadlines . So do we, but in Indian style … when a few days or weeks of the deadline is left … we work day in and out and finish our projects.JUST ON TIME! 😉

  19. I totally agree with you. I had grown my hair for a good 1 year and received mixed criticism. Some liked it some didn’t.
One thing that I realized is that, though I am not attractive but my hair drew a lot of attraction.
While reading through your post I realized that each and every thing we do teaches us. And it’s not only hair but anything that you do will inspire you.
Every one has ideas to do something different but either they never begin or they never finish. Odds will always be there when you begin, people around you oppose you, crticise you, call you crazy, but when you succeed the same people follow you. you got to trust yourself blindly to win.
This is what draws the line between a common man and a hero.
    Thanks for the inspiration!!!
