26th June is the scheduled date for Pranab Mukherjee to resign from Finance Ministry. At a time when our economy is in a shaky state and INR is unstable and has reached its lowest all-time value of 57 , who would be handed over the responsibility ?
Raisina Hill is a locality of Delhi where many important government buildings are located and along with these is the President’s House – Rashtrapati Bhavan.
As of now there is no tough competition between the contenders : Pranab Mukherjee from UPA and P.A.Sangma from NDA. It seems that Pranab Mukherjee will win the race with more number of parties supporting him but the race of politics is like the race of the Hare and the Tortoise.Well, in this case the Hare is taking no chance of making any mistake or taking the race or the Tortoise, lightly ! 🙂
While the Finance Minister is about to quit on the 26th of the month and is busy collecting votes for his Presidential Poll, INR continues to fall against the US dollars to cross the all time low of Rs 57 !
PA Sangma, is so far, getting support from BJP , TMC , SAD ,BJD,AIADMK while Pranab Mukherjee , the contestant from UPA is getting JD(U) and Shiv Sena’s support and from Left parties (except for CPI). Pranab Mukherjee was initially making a clean sweep after Dr Kalam had rejected to contest but PA Sangma has taken the risk of resigning his co-founded party-NCP, to contest for the post. This was yesterday when officially even BJP, the second biggest national party had not declared their support him ! Even Pranab Mukherjee has resigned from the Finance Minister’s post to contest for the Presidential Poll but it looked well-planned but PA Sangma’s candidature was indeed a shocker. He is contesting at the cost of losing his founded party and even risking her daughter’s ministerial position under the UPA government.
Whosoever wins, out of the two, the one who will not, will really lose a lot !
Today, P A Sangma finally submitted his resignation to his party(National Congress Party) co-founder Sharad Pawar which has been accepted. Although he has taken a great risk by declaring to contest against UPA supported Pranab Mukherjee,as her daughter who is a serving minister in UPA government may be asked to quit the post and he himself quit NCP. BJP on the other hand knows NDA has parties like JD(U) and Shiv Sena who are backing Pranab Mukherjee and it would be tough to make Sangma win as the present status reveals UPA has better numbers favouring Pranab Mukherjee. It is upto BJP to give tough contest to Congress supporting Sangma, as he has the support of BJD and ADMK. TMC of UPA which has already declared they do not support Pranab can also be of help to Sangma. Whatever the result be , BJP being the biggest opposition ideally should put up a contest supporting Sangma !
As commoners all we can pray, may the deserving becomes the President of the country! 🙂
Nitish Kumar warns split if Modi be declared PM candidate for BJP-Nitish Kumar Vs Modi Cartoon
Shiv Sena’s willingness to support Congress led UPA candidate,Pranab Mukherjee,in the Presidential Poll is believed to have been motivated by Congress’ offer to keep Narayan Rane, once in Shiv Sena and now in Congress (hence a friend turned foe) in check and minimize his opportunity to become Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Even in the last Presidential Poll, the Sena had supported UPA candidate ,Pratibha Patil claiming she was Marathi. In return,Narayan Rane who was a major contender for Maharashtra’s Chief Minister’s post suddenly got sidelined. 🙂 . Well, thats what we call politics !
Nobody can take away the benefits Congress is going to get if Pranab Mukherjee, the troubleshooter of the party, becomes the President of India. Serving the second term in alliance has been difficult for the UPA government led by Congress. If not all, at least Mamata Banerjee has never been thinking alike, rejecting many Congress decisions, including the recent issue of not supporting Pranab Mukherjee for Presidential Post.
In case there is any dispute between Mamata led TMC and Congress and they decide to split, SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav would support the UPA government,as it seems till date. But Congress would rather prefer sticking to TMC till 2014 General Elections.
However, if and once Pranab Mukherjee becomes the President of India and as expected, if there is a mixed election result of 2014 , where both the UPA and NDA doubt clear win, it would be a call of the President and then all the present effort to push Pranab Mukherjee on President’s chair would yield results in favour of Congress ! No denying that all these are expectations and assumptions and only 2014 knows what it has in its bag for Indian Politics !
