Sufferings of a long-haired Indian male

I don’t know that well about the West but I’m sure men with long hair is not that big an issue. In India it indeed is(unless you are in a saintly Β group enchanting God’s name and in a Saffron or White attire πŸ˜‰ ). Its about to be 2 years since I had my last hair-cut done. Ok ! Chill!! Β πŸ™‚
I know its not normal, at least , for an Indian male.In fact, who better than me would know that. Breaking the shackles of Indian society ain’t easy- a dialogue people may love from an Indian female.Right ?
And if you think Indian male can do whatever they like, you are absolutely wrong. With my hair growing below shoulders,I drive unwanted attention everywhere , no matter, I go anywhere or anyone invades my dwelling.
I would love to show what you go through when you break Indian social norms as a male and would love your feedback.
In my next post , I will surely give my reasons of growing long hair and keeping a trim beard Β even at the cost of all the pain, I go through, everyday. πŸ™‚

  1. Ha Ha Ha…I could relate to this post so much, coz that’s exactly what my brother gets from me when he comes home unshaven. I am sure he’ll be cursing me for all the dhakka-mukkas I give him till he listens to me… πŸ˜€
Would love to hear the reasons for growing the ‘tresses’. πŸ˜€

      1. Hey, I know you posted this a long time ago but the situation regarding men having long hair has not improved at all. You might be surprised but I am conducting sociology research on this exact issue. And I am looking for individuals who are keen to participate in a short interview. So if anyone is willing just hit me up at jg.works@Yahoo.com Don’t worry I am not a scammer lol.

    1. i am planning to hire a security guard for even my mum has been noticed hovering around in my room late at nights .. πŸ˜€ She carries something in her hand .. now I can guess!! it is a weapon to detach my hard grown hair πŸ˜€

        1. hahaha!!
Life is a lesson and Long Hair is a teacher dear lady !!
I ain’t loosing them for social norms !!
          πŸ™‚
Thank God they do not ask artists to do hair cut of Shiva or Shree Ram or Krishna πŸ˜€ they all had .. long hair !! πŸ˜€

          1. I dont know who he is !! Longer hair than mine .. Yes I am just speechless and actually horrified πŸ˜€
Long hair on male looks more manly provided one carries it properly. Thank God, I know how to look so.
i would love to know who THAT was !

          2. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ found Mr. Long hair on FB…I hope you don’t grow it this long and then sing a song πŸ˜€ :D..and am glad you are horrified enough

          3. hahaha .. it might grow that long but still i promise .. i will look a stud πŸ™‚
That man was behaving weird in the video .. he was scary crap πŸ˜€
            Song ?? Kabhi nahi !! hahahaha ..

  2. I understand, partially. My nephew did this and we tolerated it somehow and then he lost a bet to someone and cut it! What a relief! But never realized that it could be this bad.

    1. hehe !! hmm !! its the snatching away of personal freedom πŸ˜€
Why is it like .. a man is bound to have a short hair ???
      πŸ˜€
      I protest !! πŸ™‚

  3. This one has to be one of your best !! “One of the best” .. so, its a series for me …
Haha … you know your people don’t you my friend …. the reaction are just so well thought of .. i mean so precise and according to the character … here is a five star rating from me ***** ….

    1. Thank You !! Thank You !! Thank You !!
this is the one i least worked on to be honest .. hehehe .. i just recalled what all the people say on my face or around me πŸ˜€
I am overwhelmed with that 5 star you gave dear Aazi

  4. hehe Oh yes I can quite imagine your trauma. You will surely be head turner though I am not sure how many of them will have appreciation in their eyes when they do so :).

    1. oh yes Rachna.. breaking the norms of the society calls for so much criticism .. its a mental block that men are born to keep short hair !! πŸ˜€ Lord Shiva had long hair style πŸ™‚ Lord Rama Krishna .. I am just being religious u see πŸ˜‰

  5. I used to love Arjun Rampal when he long hair and would tell my sis that one day I would like to marry someone like him. But then I realised that my dad would throw him out of the house by his hair…so changed my preference..heeh

  6. My bro has got his one ear pierced 2 years ago and is wearing an earring. He is getting similar reactions. I am the only one in the family supporting him πŸ™‚ Regular dialogue I hear is ” these youngsters are aping the west, wearing earing and growing hair like girls, chi chi..” Well they forget men were wearing earrings and growing hair till my grandfathers generation and even now wear kada (bangle) and gold chains(mala). So what actually is feminine in our great Indian culture ? Even “Purushottam Shri Ram” had long hair and wore all these ‘feminine’ accessories πŸ™‚

    1. aah!! at peace !! Someone agrees πŸ™‚
why earrings and long hair are associated as womenhood material ? In fact , it is only after the Brits rule the trends changed .. they had the definition of gentlemen with short hair and no ornaments .. Why follow them??
When we are proud of our culture why not the attire and accessories and the hairstyle !!
this shows how much we love to get inspired by other countries !! πŸ™‚
Thanks for keeping your views .. Appreciate it !!

  7. hahaha…i can imagine your trauma!! My cousin has long hair too and people ask him if he is a MJ fan or is in a rock band…he shares his frustration with me and i laugh my ass off!! πŸ˜› sorry for you too but just cant stop laughing πŸ˜›

    1. hus lo madam ji hus lo!! hehehe..
Its truly painful making Indians understand .. long hair is very much Indian style pre -British !! Itihas gawah hai .. Hindustan mei Mardon ke bade baal hua karte thei .. Me lord !! πŸ˜‰
BTW let your brother know there is another man with the same pain πŸ˜€

  8. i used to do the same back in college days πŸ˜‰
That doodle was perfect…too perfect….i used to get the same comments, even from my teachers πŸ˜‰

    1. I am happy you could relate , Ritesh πŸ™‚ Back in college days I had got my ear pierced and faced the same fate πŸ˜€
Had to give up in front of the society πŸ™‚

  9. I think i will have no objection and can appreciate as long as that character is not a resident of my house. πŸ™‚

    1. hahahaha.. how decently you took a dig !! hahaha .. loved it .. long hair till the character is a co-dweller πŸ˜€
thank God , so far , my parents did not ask me to opt between hair cut and their house πŸ˜€

  10. That’s ok. Even I had long hair. Whenever I used to visit India, I used to hear similar comments. First time, it affected me and I cut my hair. But then my German friend told me, its your hair, and its your wish. Since then I never bothered who said what. It later on turned pretty much like Einstein and then there was no issue. Now, I have this thing that I will cut my hair only once in a hair. Already 4 months over since last cut

  11. Men surprisingly have more beautiful and lustrous hair than women! In fact, two of my male friends have better and longer hair than me! Maybe that’s why I tell them they should consider cutting their hair πŸ˜›

  12. Hahahahahaha.. I was about to ask you today about your horse tail..and here you are with your post πŸ˜€
And I can’t stop laughing.. I dunno why but I think this is your best till now, that I have read. ki kore manage korish shokolke?
aar jaanish… I can relate to it also.. no not for my hair… I am suppose to have long mane πŸ˜› but.. my being slim… people often think.. I must be undernourished… or stressed.. or a victim of fad diet… or some deficiency or all the above reasons ..but they simply can’t come to terms with my workout regime and good metabolism rate lol πŸ˜›

    1. loke bojhaleo bojhe na !! kichu korar nai bondhu !! I will share my idea .. I turn deaf ears the moment I am being asked why long hair? when did u last visit a barber ? are you interested in guys ? are u trying to be a goon ? are u taking up spiritualism too seriously ?? so many .. whenever there is that hair thing .. i behave I am long haired dumb man .. who does not understand any language πŸ˜€
      try kore dekhish .. !! πŸ™‚

        1. πŸ™‚ good for achievers ! turn deaf ears to the world which questions and be prompt to think about critics !!
πŸ™‚ philosophical dialogue diye dilaam !! hehehe πŸ˜€

  13. haahha…m asked to get a hair cut even when my hair reach 3 inches…
i especially liked the comment by the β€˜beloved’ and the β€˜strangers’… thanks for sharing…:)

    1. thanks Arish !! I am happy you liked the post πŸ™‚
and trust me ..there are many more things which I get to hear .. things which can provoke even the biggest of a peace lover πŸ˜€
Thanks for dropping by and sharing your views

  14. Was keeping a trimmed hair style now will join you and keep locks a la Baba Ramdev style
kindly inform ASAP how to do that as I am turning bald πŸ™‚

    1. apply castor oil with coconut .. Vijayji everynight … and it should not take more than 6 months when you can also sing – Ye Reshmi Zulfein.. like me
      πŸ˜€
I tie my hair Baba Ramdev style to indicate my spiritual awakening πŸ˜‰

      1. Mysay jee kya baat hai πŸ™‚ duniya aap ki chotiya pe diwani ho gayi hai, video shideo dikhaye jaa rahe hai. Lagta hai ab to castor oil mangana padega aur gana gana hi padega/
I fully agree that you are more than awakened now πŸ™‚

  15. Although I don’t have a problem even if your hair touches your hips, I simply can’t understand the reason behind it. So much wastage of time and energy for the maintenance of hair. When I get bored, I let my hair grow for an an year and then I am back to short hair. You know easy to manage πŸ˜›

    1. oh yes being short haired is such a bliss πŸ˜€ But I prefer life the tough way … my next post would be on my reasons why I grew them that long and why I may continue πŸ™‚

    1. Arghyadeep ..it took me years to be strong enough to rebel πŸ™‚ even the fate of my hair would be the same prior to this . πŸ™‚
Why long hair has to be related to indecency , spiritualism or doubts about ones sexual preferences is beyond understanding !
Thanks for sharing your thoughts πŸ™‚

  16. Haha!
I really hated my husband in long hair. He just did not look good. I mean no man looks good with long hair. Personal preference!
But he never shared such stories with me. It was hilarious πŸ˜€

    1. thanks Mousumi for liking the post !
Yes … I understand why you may not like to see your man with long hair .. it does not look ‘decent’ or ‘manly’ after a certain limit. Thats the thought we have developed post British.Prior to that Indian male used to wear ornaments and long hair was casual. We love following the West πŸ™‚

  17. πŸ˜€ Now that was something super awesome!
Guys with long hair are considered as gay by people :O o.O
In b/w your description of your appearence altogether did make me think twice about your image that appeared in my mind πŸ˜›
P.S.My tresses are what get the better of me everytime…I can manage probably evry thing except for them…Now you sound like a proud owner of long waving tresses…Do give me some tips haan…#no offence!! :P:D

    1. hehe !! doodlers dont get offended, poetess! Thats the reason even listening to all those things I mentioned .. I grew my hair .. It is a reality .. some consider long haired guys with gays .. thank God .. they do not doubt the preferences of Lord Rama,Krishna,Shiva, or for that matter .. our ancestors before the British. Its the British men who had short hair and a gentlemen code which included short-hair !!
today we have forgotten our past for them ! πŸ™‚
I am a proud Indian following my culture πŸ™‚

  18. The graphics is hilarious.
And 2 years!!! If I don’t go for a haircut for two months, my Mom starts to shout so much that I am forced to go.

  19. You need to add one other person to your cartoon- a girl swooning over you like you sprayed some axe. There are women who find men with long hair irresistible. When you find them, you won’t mind the ‘unwanted’ attention!
But like I tell every guy with long hair- condition, condition, condition, or you’ll soon have frizz the size of a sheep with its foot in the electric socket!

    1. πŸ˜€
well i would agree .. on that .. some women do give that .. axe-effect stare πŸ˜‰ .. specially in night-clubs .. πŸ™‚ .. but then … its the spiritual me which wanted to grow long hair .. hence I stopped going to nightclubs πŸ™‚

    1. hei Saru !!
ur so very right πŸ™‚ its all about how we carry ourselves even with long hair .. many men look smart πŸ™‚ I think I am one of them πŸ˜€

  20. im gonna share this link with a lot of guys i know, if they have not already read it…:) yess i do have frends who have long hair, my parents look down upon them but then they look down upon every frend I have…:)

  21. Omg! ha ha ha! This is really a serious problem man! Reminds me of how mu,m/dad/sis (everybody in the world) taunts my bro when his hair grow an inch longer than dead line! Lekin atleast his friends support him yaar! Ha ha! You really are facing a great problem!
From today i’ll remember to change my perspective about my bro πŸ™‚
Even beloved? how sad! ha ha! Girls really care about this petty things….I know what she would be thinking ha ha! πŸ˜€ Good luck bro good luck!

  22. Ha Ha Jack good to see your post. I always thought boys had it easy but it sounds as irritating as what we have to face when we want to be or do anything even slightly different. I’ll say be yourself no matter what others are saying. God gave us two ears – one way in other way out don’t let it settle in between πŸ™‚

  23. Yesterday one of my male disciple came with long hair. In video chat it can never be understood. All my other women disciples were angry since his hair is longer than theirs.I realized how much trouble he has to go through just keeping them that way. I guess you too have to go through that. God bless. Bhaiyya, kheti hai to ugao nahi to banjar zameen ho jayegi! I guess the guy with most hair is Balaji from Tirupati, what says?

    1. πŸ™‚ so true Sir !!!honestly speaking , I am learning some lessons of life with the long hair and it acts as a reminder everyday when I comb !! When I would be self sufficient to analyse things on my own without my hair .. I will cut them !! πŸ™‚

  24. Hit the nail on the head with your usual accuracy! πŸ™‚ Or should I say pinned the hair? πŸ˜‰
Personally, don’t care about the length of hair (on either male or female) what counts is how long you wear your sense of humour! And there dear mysay your length is just right πŸ™‚

    1. for this post .. pinning the hair compliment sounds better πŸ˜€
Overwhelmed , dear poetess with that heavy compliment, honestly πŸ™‚

  25. Hahhahaha! Omg! can’t stop laughing πŸ˜€
I get similar kind of reactions when I wear funky tribal jewellery! I can’t understand why people want to see us the way they like!

  27. Haha Awesome. It’s true then even Indian males haven’t got all the freedom in the world πŸ˜› I loved the depiction through cartoons !

    1. perceptions .. a powerful word.. all depends how well we can convey our point of view to others. πŸ™‚
I am glad you liked the toon πŸ™‚

  28. I can imagine your ordeal. My bike-fanatic husband had long hair for three years and he has suffered every bit of the stuff you’ve written about! Also, because he practices yoga, people would ask him to go live in the Himalayas. Go figure!

  29. Oooh I am not concealing my delight in knowing that at least a few Indian guys are told off for something or the other. On the other hand, I know how it feels. I have a tough time putting up with the ‘A girl should/shouldn’t’ cliches.
If it would make you feel better, let me assure you that most of the girls like men with long hair rather than pinpricks πŸ˜€
So, the next time you pretend to listen & try to ignore people simultaneously, remember this. It might help. Goodluck πŸ™‚

    1. eh!! wish I would have got your comment before.. I am already a military chap now πŸ˜€ … I could not take the pressure of the stereo type orthodox society…long hair is history … but yes .. the seeds are still within … and I plan to grow them yet again πŸ™‚ thanks for dropping by friend.

    1. πŸ™‚ someone’s suffering .. someone’s delight .. that’s life .. ain’t it ?? πŸ™‚ glad you liked the post..
Observe and draw.. that is the lone secret of my amateur doodling πŸ™‚

  31. I am entering college in Kerala and will grow long hair regardless of what any one says because I think it will be nice to look a little feminine.

  32. Hello, I am growing my hair out too and it’s just disgusting how we face these things and these things are just so underrated like it changes a person completely. Since I started growing out my hair I have social anxiety and self consciousness and now life sucks, but the good part is that Lord Shiva wants me to be strong and overcome these situations ☺️ Men with long hair suffer alot it’s so ironical that others are more concerned about our looks. Also being a teenager and growing our hair out is like a free ticket for relatives to roast on us and you can’t argue with them because you know we are in india! All I can say is that it requires courage for men to grow their hair long. Am commenting this in the year 2020 7 years after you posted it. If you ever see this just reply if you still have long hair πŸ™‚ men with long hair are like”broooo” I will be glad if you reply 😊

    1. Hellllo Bro,
Good to know that long hair still makes sense to current generations. It is funny that in India we are questioned for keeping long hair where it was just a common thing prior to the British. Colonization impacts, you see. πŸ˜€
I still get my hair cut done twice a year or thrice at the most and cut them really short. But those ponytail days are gone for now. will come back in a years time again πŸ˜€
More than anything, keeping long hair teaches you perseverance, it teaches you to take criticisms and questions and let go of haters. Develops will power and helps you hang on till you get what you aspire. And it is also a way of saying – you can be successful, well-educated, learned, social, rich and manly even with long hair and a ponytail. πŸ˜€ The only difference between all other animals and humans is the ability to think and think independently. Why be a cattle in the herd called society where 3 powerful people convince 5 confused people and outcast 2 others for different opinions. Long hair is accepting the basic rules of the Application we are a part of – The Creation. Had hair been allowed to not grow on scalp beyond a point they would have remained eyebrow length πŸ˜€
Anyways!! carry on! Keep upgrading to the next level because there is nothing else we are being created for, I found. All the best !! πŸ™‚
