Shiv Sena’s willingness to support Congress led UPA candidate,Pranab Mukherjee,in the Presidential Poll is believed to have been motivated by Congress’ offer to keep Narayan Rane, once in Shiv Sena and now in Congress (hence a friend turned foe) in check and minimize his opportunity to become Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Even in the last Presidential Poll, the Sena had supported UPA candidate ,Pratibha Patil claiming she was Marathi. In return,Narayan Rane who was a major contender for Maharashtra’s Chief Minister’s post suddenly got sidelined.
